For this who do not know what is Diwali... Diwali or Deepavali, the "festival of lights" is an Hindu festival celebrated in autumn every year.In southern part of India,Karnataka we call it as Deepavali. Deepavali is the biggest and the brightest festival in India. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness.
A day or two before Diwali, we clean the house, decorate, paint if needed. It is a new beginning. We keep our diyas or light pots ready for the next day. On the day of Diwali, we cook special food which includes more of sweet. In the evening we dress up in new clothes. Lighten the pil lamps around the house. Then we do the prayers and worship Lakshmi - the goddess of wealth. After the prayers, the fireworks begins. And finally to end the day we have feast with our family and relatives.
Back home, we celebrate this festival for 2 days. Day 1 is Lakshmi pooja and Day 2 is the main festive day for us. Day 1 is the Lakshmi pooja. Lakshmi symbolizes wealth and prosperity, and her blessings are invoked for a good year ahead.Lakshmi is believed to roam the earth on Diwali night. On the evening of Diwali, people open their doors and windows to welcome Lakshmi, and place diya lights on their windows and balcony ledges to invite her in. On this day, the mothers who work hard all year, are recognized by the family and she is seen to embody a part of Lakshmi, the good fortune and prosperity of the household.
